What’s on the line Friday for Columbia County football

Clatskanie plays at league-leading Knappa, Rainier visits Corbett, and Scappoose can finish unbeaten in league play before the OSAA rankings freeze.

Every Columbia County football team plays its regular-season finale on the road Friday, Oct. 30, and every game kicks off at 7 p.m., according to the OSAA schedule. For three of the five, Friday’s result will shape the playoff bracket.

The OSAA rankings freeze after Friday’s games in 5A and 1A 8-man and after Saturday’s games in 4A and 2A, according to the association’s 2026 football plan book. First-round playoff games are Nov. 6 and 7. The Tribune’s playoff picture has where each team stood a week ago.

Clatskanie at Knappa

First place in 2A Special District 1 is on the line. Knappa (5-3) is 5-0 in the district and wins it outright with a victory. A Clatskanie win would leave the Tigers (5-3) and Knappa tied at 5-1.

The district gets two automatic bids to the 16-team 2A bracket, and each special district decides how to award its bids, per the plan book. Four more spots go to the highest-ranked teams without an automatic bid. In Monday’s OSAA rankings, Knappa was No. 11 in 2A and Clatskanie No. 16.

Both teams won Friday. Clatskanie beat Neah-Kah-Nie 38-26 at home, and Knappa won 31-6 at Nestucca.

Rainier at Corbett

Rainier (6-2) and Corbett (5-3) are both 3-2 in Special District 1, tied for third. Rainier was No. 18 in Monday’s 2A rankings and Corbett No. 21. If the district’s two automatic bids go to Knappa and Clatskanie, Rainier would need one of the four at-large spots, and those go by ranking once the rankings freeze Saturday night.

Rainier beat Gaston 42-16 on senior night Friday. Corbett won 57-18 at Jefferson in a non-league game. Earlier this season, Clatskanie beat Rainier 46-22, and Corbett beat Clatskanie 45-18.

Scappoose at Woodburn

Scappoose (7-1) can finish 6-0 in 4A Special District 1 with a win at Woodburn (2-6, 0-5). The Indians are No. 3 in the 4A rankings. Special District 1 gets three automatic playoff bids, and Banks (4-1) and Tillamook (4-2) are next in the standings. Banks plays at Taft on Friday.

Scappoose’s only loss was 35-7 to unbeaten Cascade Christian on Sept. 4. The Indians had a bye last week.

St. Helens at Parkrose

St. Helens (5-3, 2-1) visits Parkrose (1-7, 0-3) a week after a 56-14 loss at Milwaukie left Milwaukie alone in first place in 5A Special District 2 at 3-0. Milwaukie finishes at McKay (1-7).

Special District 2 has one automatic bid to the 16-team 5A bracket. The plan book also guarantees an at-large spot to the higher-ranked of the second-place teams in Special Districts 1 and 2, then fills five more at-large spots by ranking. A win would put the Lions at 3-1 in the district, ahead of Putnam (2-2), which has finished its district schedule. St. Helens was No. 19 in Monday’s 5A rankings.

Vernonia at Camas Valley

Vernonia (2-6, 1-3) closes its season at Camas Valley on Camas Valley’s homecoming and senior night, per the OSAA schedule. The Loggers lost 76-0 at Perrydale on Friday and were No. 23 in Monday’s 1A 8-man rankings.

Soccer’s Last League Week

The soccer regular season ends this week too. Rankings freeze after Saturday, Oct. 31, and the 4A playoffs start Nov. 3 for boys and Nov. 4 for girls, according to the OSAA soccer plan book. In 4A, each league gets two automatic bids, and the remaining at-large spots go to third-place teams by ranking.

  • Scappoose girls (9-2-1, 8-0 Cowapa, No. 3 in 4A): at Tillamook/Neah-Kah-Nie, Tuesday, Oct. 27, 7 p.m.; home against Astoria on senior night, Thursday, Oct. 29, 7 p.m.
  • Scappoose boys (4-6-3, 4-1-3 Cowapa): home against first-place Tillamook/Neah-Kah-Nie (6-0-2 in league), Tuesday, 7 p.m.; at Astoria, Thursday, 6:15 p.m. The Indians are third, behind Tillamook/Neah-Kah-Nie and Valley Catholic (6-1-1). A third-place finish would put them in the at-large pool with other leagues’ third-place teams.
  • St. Helens boys (0-12): senior night against Hood River Valley, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.; at Crescent Valley, Thursday, 4 p.m., non-league.
  • St. Helens girls (0-13): at Hood River Valley, Tuesday, 7 p.m.
  • Clatskanie/Rainier boys (0-10): at Oregon Episcopal, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.; at Amity, Friday, 4 p.m., non-league.

Full week schedules: Scappoose and St. Helens.
